Sundarban National Park is the world’s largest mangrove area formed by the confluence of Brahmaputra, Ganga, and Meghna in the Bay of Bengal.
The Bengali meaning of Sundarban is ‘Beautiful Forest’ and derived from the word Sundari and also known as Samudraban.
Sunderban National Park is situated in West Bengal and its a World Heritage site declared by UNESCO.
A renowned place for tiger conservation and it’s the home of the Royal Bengal Tiger. Its tiger reserve has nearly 300 majestic and fiery Royal Bengal Tiger.
Sundarban has got the world’s largest mangrove forest.
Sundarbans biosphere reserve is considered to be India’s largest fishery board for both brackish and marine fisheries.
It covers an area of about 10,000km2 and it’s the habitat of 453 wildlife which includes 120 fish,42 mammals,35 reptiles,290 birds, and 8 amphibians.
The total number of plant species is nearly equal to 245 genera and 334 plants.
Having all these protections still, Sundarban is considered an Endangered zone under the IUCN red list of ecosystem framework.
