Chilika lake is situated in Odisha and spreads over the Puri, Khordha and Ganjam districts.At the mouth of the Daya river this lake flows into the Bay of Bengal.

Chilika is the Largest coastal lagoon of India.

It’s the second largest coastal lagoon in the world after The New Caledonian Barrier Reef.

This brackish water lagoon is spread over an area of 11 sq. km.

Chilika is the home of a number of bird species and become the hub of migratory birds in the winter season.Where one can find more than 150 species of birds migrated from Russia, Central Asia and Caspian Sea.

It provides a large amount of fisheries resources (over 1.5 lakh) which are transported to throughout the nation as well as China.

A rare dolphin species named as Irrawaddy Dolphin can be seen here only.

It’s the home of rare and threatened species of animals and birds.
