Indian is home to lakhs of species of birds. As per the Bombay Natural History Society, there are more than 72 bird sanctuaries and around 1210 bird species are found in India. As per its physical and geographical condition, it’s become one of the best places for a large variety of resident and migratory birds. 1.Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary-

The topmost place for birds is Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary located in Rajasthan otherwise known as Keoladeo National Park. It was declared as a protected sanctuary in 1971.

It covers 28.7 sq. km and is the home of more than 366 birds and 13 species of reptiles,50 species of fish.

List of birds- Saurus Cranes, Tufted Duck, Ruff, Darter, Hawks, Pipits, Pelican, Geese, Shanks.

2.Sultan Bird Sanctuary –

The most popular bird sanctuary of India situated in Haryana. It’s is the home of more than 250 species of local bird and more than 100 species of migratory birds. It covers more than 140 hectares. It became a national park in 1991.

3.Chlika Bird Sanctuary

Chilika Bird Sanctuary situated in Odisha and it’s the largest brackish water lake in Asia. Covers an area of over 1,100 sq. km spread over three district Puri, Khordha and Ganjam at the mouth of Daya river famous for a large variety of migratory bird. In the winter season, it becomes the home of more than 260 species of migratory birds migrates from Russia, Ladakh, Himalayas.

Apart from this, it’s also a major hub of fishing, you can also enjoy some of the tourist places near this lake.

4.Salim Ali Sanctuary-

Salim Ali bird sanctuary is the home to so many migratory birds. Named for Dr. Salim Moizzudin Ali and one of the smallest protected places of Goa situated near Mandoci river. You can find a number of uncommon species of marsh-dwelling birds and animals.

Birds- Woodpeckers, Mynah, Curlews, white egrets, Kites, Drongos.

5.Nal Sarovar Bird Sanctuary-

Nal Sarovar bird sanctuary is situated at Ahmedabad near Sanand village. This is considered India’s largest water bird sanctuary and having 120 sq. km in area. More than 200 species of wetland birds, as well as some migratory birds, are found here.

Birds- Geese, Ducks’, Rosy Pelicans, White Storks, Brahminy Ducks, Purple moorhen, Herons.
