Fun facts about Hygrophila auriculata

Hygrophila auriculata is a herb size nearly equal to 50-60 cm. It belongs to the family Acanthaceae. This plant mostly grows near paddy fields, near ponds, and other watered zones.

The scientific name of this plant is Hygrophila auriculata.Other names of this plant-In Sanskrit-Gokanta, Kulekhara, Vayachulli.In India, it is known as Kokilaksha, in Sri Lanka as Neeramuli.

Leaves have a smooth surface, iso bilateral having planoconvex prominent midrib. Leaf peeling shows almost similar morphology on both sides having polygonal angular epidermal cells and anomocytic stomato surrounded by 2 – 3 subsidiary cells

The color of its flower is light pink with some white patches on the bottom. It has a thin spines size of up to 2-3 cm.

It has great medicinal use, in ancient times, its parts were used to treat certain kinds of pain.

In Ayurveda, its leaves, flowers, roots, and other parts are used to make medicines and used for the treatment of diseases like jaundice, malaria, and pain.
