Organic Strawberry cultivation in Odisha : After Coffe, Odisha’s Koraput is now gaining attention for its organic strawberry cultivation. It’s a type of revolution by the farmers of Koraput and the ORGANIC “KOTIA STRAWBERRY” is now trending worldwide.

Organic “Kotia Strawberries” cultivated over 20 acres of land in village Janiguda and Phatusenery of Kotia GP by the WSHG members with support of District Administration. Villagers of Janiguda and Phatusenery of Kotia are now cultivating strawberries by applying natural and environmental manure. They are using 100% organic methods.

Some years back, they started the early preparation for the cultivation in Kotia area, which is located at an elevation of 3,000 ft above sea level. After facing a lot of challenges finally they succeed.

As a piloting process, they started farming on 5 acres of land and planted nearly 55,000 saplings of strawberry which was brought from Pune. Then within a gap of 50 days the efforts and hard work of the team resulted in great success and the total business received is around 5 lakhs.

The most important thing is that women members of the SHG group are cultivating strawberries with the support of the administration, which is a source of inspiration and a thing of pride for Odisha.
