Forest cover in Nepal has doubled since 1992 : Nepal has a total forest cover of nearly 44 percent of its total landmass. The Annapurna Conservation Area is one of the biggest protected forest areas in Nepal.
But deforestation is the biggest threat to forest areas not only for Nepal but also for the whole world. To increase forest area Nepal has taken many initiatives to control and increase the forest area. In the 1980s and 1990s, Nepal’s government began to reassess its national-level forest management practices.
Forest cover in Nepal has doubled since 1992

As per the data given by NASA’s Earth Orbitory, Forest cover in Nepal is now doubled since 1992. In 1992 the total forest area in Nepal is 26.2 percent of the total territory and in 2016 its rises to 44.9 percent.
NASA shared a satellite image and the status of the forest area of Nepal. From this one can easily identify that there is a rise in the forest cover in Nepal.
Nepal has taken many such initiatives to control deforestation. They also focused on plantations, which help to increase the forest area. If we take an example, Devithan or sacred grove forest had only 12 percent forest cover in 19992 and in 2016 it grew to 92 percent. Now Nepal has nearly 2.3 million hectares of community forest area, which is a third of Nepal’s total forest cover.
