Top 10 States in India by Foreign Tourist Visits
According to a report published by the Ministry of Tourism of India, more than 1.92 crore foreign tourists visited India in 2023. The highest footfall was in Maharashtra, with nearly 33.88 lakh tourists visiting the state.
Here is the list of the top 10 states in India by foreign tourist visits:
Maharashtra: 33.88 lakh
Gujarat: 28.07 lakh
West Bengal: 27.07 lakh
Delhi: 18.28 lakh
Rajasthan: 17.00 lakh
Uttar Pradesh: 16.02 lakh
Tamil Nadu: 11.75 lakh
Punjab: 7.42 lakh
Kerala: 6.49 lakh
Bihar: 5.47 lakh
Footfall in Bihar is higher than in Goa, where nearly 4.53 lakh foreign tourists visited in 2023, followed by Karnataka with 4.09 lakh tourists.
The government of India is investing more in the tourism sector to attract a higher number of visitors in the future. New modifications and the promotion of tourist destinations, including initiatives by the Prime Minister, are creating a greater impact on the tourism sector.
