Chilika lake is situated in Odisha and spreads over the Puri, Khordha, and Ganjam districts. At the mouth of the Daya river, this lake flows into the Bay of Bengal.The winter season makes this place a home to many migratory and local birds.
Migratory birds have started arriving at Chilika Lake before winter arriving. The largest brackish water lagoon of Asia now going to be the hotspot of migratory birds. The birds started arriving at Chilika in the first week of October.
To protect the birds, the Forest department has mounted elaborate arrangements, Assistant conservator of Forest of Chilika Wildlife Division Sarat Chandra Mishra said.
More than 21 camps along with a mobile squad already done by the Chilika Wildlife Division and Tangi range has a maximum of 11 camps, Satapada and Rambha have two each, Balugaon has four and one in Chilika.
To take care of this foreign guest 60 locals have been hired and they will work at the temporary camps. The camps will function till March next year.
Around 22,000 migratory birds of 55 species along with over 10,000 Indian birds have already arrived at the lake (not exactly)
