Biosphere Reserves in India :  In India there are 18  Biosphere Reserves. They are playing a major role for economic and social development. This place is designated by the designation by United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). The programme of Biosphere Reserve was initiated by UNESCO in 1971.
