Satkosia Gorge of Odisha is now Ramsar site
The amazing Satkosia Gorge in Angul district of Odisha has got Ramsar recognition as wetlands of international importance.By this Satkosia becomes the 3rd Ramsar Site of Odisha, after Chilika Lake and Bhitarakanika.

It was established in 1976 as a wildlife sanctuary to protect a group of fauna and flora. It covers nearly 963.87 square kilometer.
India adds 10 more wetlands designated as Ramsar sites to make total 64 sites covering an area of 12,50,361 ha in the country. Now, India strands at first position jointly with China.
The 10 new sites include: Six (6) sites (Koonthankulam Bird Sanctuary, Gulf of Mannar Marine Biosphere Reserve, Vembannur Wetland Complex, Vellode Bird Sanctuary, Vedanthangal Bird Sanctuary & Udhayamarthandapuram Bird Sanctuary) in Tamil Nadu. Nanda Lake in Goa and Ranganathituu Bird Sanctuary in Karnataka, Sirpur wetland in Madhya Pradesh and Satkosia Gorge in Odisha are included in newly designated sites.
