The First animal overpass of Odisha
BHUBANESWAR: The Central Government planning to make an animal overpass in Odisha. It will be the first animal overpass that will be built over the railway track at Kapilash Wildlife Sanctuary.
This wildlife area is famous for Elephant and a large number of elephants has been seen crossing the road and railway tracks, which leads to accident and damage to both wildlife and property too. This type of accident is very common in Odisha and a large number of elephant deaths are caused due to this issue.
To ensure the safety of wild animals and to protect them from train accidents government is planning for the animal crossover project. At a time central government is planning to make two such animal overpasses one in Odisha and another one in Jharkhand. the National Board for Wildlife (NBWL) has already given the go-ahead order for this 100-meter-long pathway project.

As per the forest official, the initial survey for the structural design has been started by the forest officials and Railway officials. It will take nearly two years to be completed.According to Dhenkanal DFO they have requested to the ECoR authorities that the structure be designed to support a load of 15 to 20 elephants at a time.
Now DFO Dhenkanal and East Cost Railway authorities planning for the exact location of this overpass, considering the safe passage for wildlife movement. It will secure passage for wild animals especially elephants and protect them from train mishaps.
This initiative going to save the lives of Wildlife and also minimize the cost utilized for the maintenance of damaged caused by the accident.As per the report Delhi-Mumbai expressway will have India’s first-ever animal overpass.
