Things to know about Similipal Tiger Reserve – Similipal National Park is situated in the northern corner of the Mayurbhanj district of Odisha. The large forest area is the home of many fauna and flora species. There are more than 1350 plants, 94 orchids 240 species of birds, 30 species of reptiles, and 40 species of mammals that can be seen in Similipal National Park.
Total Area- The Similipal Tiger reserve covers nearly 2,750 square kilometers and is divided into three parts.
History behind its Name- The forest area of Similipal National Park is covered with Red Silk Cotton, which is named ‘Simul’. From that Word Simul, the name Similipal came. The Similipal Tiger Reserve is a part of the whole National Park.
This place is famous for a Tiger reserve. In the year of 1956, it is listed as a Tiger Reserve. In 1973 Project tiger was launched in Similipal Tiger Reserve. In 1979 Odisha government declared it a wildlife sanctuary.
Tiger Population In Similipal-
As per the data given by wildlife conservation, the tiger population in Similipal Tiger Reserve is 94 to 100 as per the tiger census report 2004.
There are many threats to the tiger in the Similipal Nation Park. Although it is a protected area still tiger trafficking is high in that place. Somehow Project Tiger helps to protect them but still, the result is no visible. The government has to put more effort to make this place as it was before and the roar of the tiger will be back once again.
